Re: Howdo from a newbie
Mon, August 15, 2005 - 9:05 PMGood question.
In my personal training practice preserving youth is my main focus (hence the group).
In a study of life expectancies around the globe made public a few years back America came in 24th. Inspite of our advanced technology and wealthy drug companies the populations of 23 countries were shown to live longer then we do. If I had to pick one factor I'd have to go with stress, which I believe is the biggest killer. -

Re: Howdo from a newbie
Tue, August 16, 2005 - 4:08 AMDefinitely stress!!! You would be amazed the amount of my fitness clients who come to me for massage as well and their muscles are soooooo locked at the beginning of both sessions! People really need to start taking care of themselves. I've one guy who is a giant of a man who I do resistance training with, he came for massage and within the first 10 mins he was crying his heart out. He just needed a release. I think society doesn't allow people to verbalise their stress as much as we need to, we just plod along pretending all is fine. -

Wed, August 17, 2005 - 12:44 AMNow that the villain has been identified how do we best deal with him?
For stress reduction meditation is a fine and time tested choice. Anyone who works with machinery will tell you that shutting that engine down for a while will keep it from overheating. How many in the group Meditate regularly and what method do you use? -

Re: Howdo from a newbie
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 2:01 AMI dont meditate, but by concentrating and focusing on my Pilates movements (do at least 1 hour every day) I chill myself out and slow my body down. If I am super stressed, then I do some extra dance practice (am a bellydancer as well) or go for a cycle. To chill out after a rotten day I have a suuuper long bath with Lavender and/or bake. I also go for a massage regularly, alternating between hot stones and aromatherapy -
