I used to practice / utilize acupuncture but was unhappy with it for a large number of reasons. I am now starting to work with the Egoscue Method and have started a group to explore it here: tribes.tribe.net/egoscue
Egoscue seems to be this wonderful combination of ’old-school’ excercise, pilates, and yoga that just realigns my system. As I do many of the ecises, I feel my chi flowing to my hands and pelvis. And I can do this daily, no needles or doctor required.

I do not work for Egoscue, I am a graduate student. But this system just totally rocked my world and not a lot of people know about it yet. I think that those involved in alternative medicine will really appreciate it.

My best.

Many of you are already aware that I recently filmed a segment of The Tyra Banks Show. The producers knew that I was the 50-year-old author of an anti-aging book,

http://www. amazon. com/Living-Young-Habits-Ageless-People/dp/0979208106/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205362666&sr=1-1

so I was asked to pose as a 35-year-old bartender and go on a fitness oriented date with a 44 year old woman, who only dates men in their 30s. They wanted to see if the woman, Jamie, would realize how old I actually am. This was a great opportunity to demonstrate my book's anti-aging principles. I'm proud to report that she thought I was in fact, 28 years old! Watch her reaction when my true age is revealed! At the end of the show Tyra gives both my book, and my "Bedroom Workout For Men" DVD a plug. The Show Is Called, "Stuck In a Single Rut."

The show first aired on March 3rd Eastern Standard Time and will be repeated but air dates vary depending on where you live. Since it's now been posted on YouTube and can be view my segment here:

Several great books on it written by the late Gerontologist Dr. Roy Walford. I understand his daughter has a book out on the same subject now. The premise is that if you moderately restrict calories (up to about 30%) while maintaining very good nutrition, you increase the maximum lifespan of a person or animal significantly. It is currently the only scientifically proven method for slowing the aging process. Hundreds of studies support it's use for animals and the preliminary human studies are bearing out as well.

It promotes the idea that we are all unique and must know, through a series of questions and experiments, exactly what we are and are not sensitive to in what we eat. I have been doing research and am trying to avoid the cost of starting something with only the knewn experience of one friend. Does anyone know anything about this?

My friend was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma and is trying pancreatin as a cure. THe precursor to this treatment is to totally clear the body of impurities using a metabolic typing diet. I am pleased to say that it has been very successful for him.

I approach my exercise from many different angles, in the hope of creating a dynamically balanced practice. My passion is bellydance and dance fusion, and I study many dances including notably capoeira, which I think adds a lot to my strength and agility. I feel like my legs are very strong, and indeed they are quite muscular, and I am able to do certain level changes and holds in dance that require a good deal of strength. I've been doing so much dancing, yoga, and running lately that I haven't had much of an opportunity to go into the gym and work with weights. But I do enjoy the particular balancing quality that it has on muscle groups. I worked on the thighs today and I remembered an enigmatic thing that has long puzzled me: with these great strong thighs, I put on 45lbs for extension and it's killing me. I can barely do it, the burn is crazy (in the belly of the muscle, not the joints). I take it down to 30, almost the lowest setting. It's still really intense, but I can do it. Pausing at the top. The hamstrings are cool with 45lbs, I'm feelin it but it's all good. And the adductors and abductors are just engaged at 55lbs. So I'm just wondering, with all their plumage, why do you suppose there is this hidden weakness in my quads? Could it be fatigue or imbalance because I use them so much in dance? Or are they just not as strong as they look?

Heart Rate Monitor

I recently got my first heart rate monitor. A Polar F-11. I love, love, love it! Definitely on my list of things that I wish I had bought a long time ago. I really love that you enter your height, weight, age, sex, activity level and resting heart rate and tell it whether you want to maintain, improve or maximize your fitness and how many days you want to work out and it sets up a schedule for you with how long to work out and at what heart rate. The website has a calendar it puts your schedule on, but you can click and drag the workouts to different days as your schedule permits. I think I've always avoided getting a heart rate monitor because I didn't want to have to figure out stuff like this, so it's cool that this gets done for you. Once a week it reminds you to re-do your resting heart rate and sets up your schedule for the next week. You can also enter any other workouts that you do on your calendar, biking, yoga, workout DVDs, etc, and transfer your heart rate data to that activity.

The most important thing I learned from wearing it the last few weeks is that while I was walking on the treadmill for a hour almost every day, I was walking way too slow. Now I can walk for less time and get a better workout!

I got it because I was stuck on a weight-loss plateau, and knew that even once I lost the last 10 pounds (already lost 25), I'd need something to motivate me to keep up the workouts.

I stopped the workout immediately as the pain was sharp and intense, it still feels a swollen.
Now I'm taking ibuprofen, and was wondering how long I should let it heal for?

I wanted to get some input on putting together a lifting program to replace the all body circuit I'm on now. It's been a successful 6 weeks but my current program is getting really stale (Squat, Bench/Incline, Row/pullup, DB overhead press, upright row, dips, leg ext., bicep curls, leg curls). I ususally run the circuit 2 times all for reps between 8-10 with 30 sec btwn lifts. I then supplement with abs workout 2 x a week and cardio 3x a week.

My goal is still weight loss and due to my lowered caloric intake I don't think much hypertrophy is going on or is possible. I'd like to keep everything the same, but change the circuit either to a split or at least change the "logic" of this particular circuit to keep things fresh.

Any suggestions?

As a sidenote, I've really upped the poundage on the squats and have been feeling really pukinsh and light headed afterwards. I've experienced this before but it usually goes away with 1-2 minutes rest, however, this really messes up the circuit because I'm only allowing myself 30 seconds rest and end up on the bench feeling really weak and spacey. Ideas?

Hello Everyone-What an excellent Tribe post. I checked out the synopsis on your DVD Andy, how brilliant! I am an OT & I see so many folks with personal dysfunction due to unhealthy habits, diet, too much internet useage, or lack of interest. I had a woman last week who wept because her husband was online all the time looking at adult sites, & she felt like she was going to chat rooms for companionship. I see this all too often. I feel it is an epidemic & hope to help people change. Perhaps, we can put something together in the future... Thank U for starting such an awesome Tribe.
